“Westlakers” is the new name of the Westlake Old Boys Association.  The Association was first established in the seventies but, despite the efforts of a determined group of old boys who served on past committees, it has been difficult to maintain momentum.

Since the appointment of a Foundation Manager in early 2007, and a new committee in 2008, the organisation is now being energised to bring Westlakers back together, in many different ways.

Who are Westlakers?

Most Westlakers are ex pupils of Westlake Boys High School. Currently that's a potential community of over 17000 Westlakers! Ex pupils include those who attended the school in the years prior to 1962 when the co-ed Westlake High School was located down the road at the site of what is now Westlake Girls High School.

If you are a past staff member, PTA member, Board member or have been involved with the school in any other voluntary capacity you are also a Westlaker.

In fact we welcome the support and involvement from anyone who is a good friend of Westlake, and would like to retain their association with the school and/or give something back.

So what do we do?

We want to help you rekindle memories of the good times experienced during your Westlake years.

We also want to provide you with opportunities to put something back in to the School if you wish. As you know schools are always in need of assistance to improve their learning environment, ensuring students receive the highest quality education and a positive learning experience.

Westlakers’ Vision

To make opportunities available to past pupils, staff and friends of the school to be part of the extended school community for as long as they wish.
To provide activities that enable the good times experienced during a pupil’s school years to remain a positive ingredient of their adult lives.
To put something back into the school to remind everyone of Westlake’s fine tradition.
Our simple approach at this stage is to first of all connect with Westlakers locally and globally.

If you want to know more about our Objectives, you can view our Westlaker Rules in PDF format.

Objectives (from Rules)

  1. Maintaining a close association with and promoting and supporting Westlake Boys High School and its students in the advancement of educational, academic, sporting and cultural pursuits.
  2. Supporting the Westlake Boys High School Foundation.
  3. All things incidental and conducive to the attaining of the foregoing objects.

Annual Events

Westlakers Golf Day

The inaugural Westlakers Golf Tournament was held in November 2008 at the North Shore Club. Over 80 Westlakers enjoyed some great golf on a perfect summer's day. Subsequent annual Golf events have been held at Waitemata Golf Course in Devonport. Westlakers Golf Day is an enjoyable day out and a great chance to reconnect with schoolmates and friends of the school.

If you're interested in entering a team, sponsoring a hole or helping out with the 2012 Westlakers Golf Day please contact Vicki Fowler at vfowler@westlake.school.nz or on (09) 410 1814.

Leavers’ Graduation Dinner

The first Westlake Graduation Dinner was held in the school auditorium in November 2008 and has since become a keenly anticipated celebratory event enjoyed by 7th form school leavers and their families. The Graduation Dinner is a very special night of celebration and brotherhood for the fine young men finishing their years at Westlake. All leavers are presented with the Westlakers tie.

Recent Leavers BBQ

The Leavers BBQ is another event that has become a firm fixture on the Westlakers Event Calendar. Held at the end of the first university semester (in May) each year, the BBQ offers a casual social opportunity to welcome recent leavers into the Westlakers family.

Westlakers Heart and Soul Project

Westlakers will be working with the School to bring more Westlake history and memorabilia back into the school environment so students, teachers and visitors can become more aware of the fine tradition at the school.
